Misster’s drag event, “child-friendly” drag events skyrocketed throughout the state. Misster’s “Drag Your Kids to Pride” achieved one thing: opening the door to “all-ages” drag shows in Texas, meant to groom, pervert, and sexualize children.įollowing Mr. However, because the event was heavily protested and negatively publicized, the second event never took place. Occasionally, the children even stuffed the money into the men’s underwear while audience members cheered and laughed.Īt the end of the show, the bar announced plans to host a second “Drag Your Kids to Pride” event as soon as possible. Parents and other event-goers also gave little children in the audience dollar bills to hand to the scantily dressed men, strip-club style. The show featured men dressed in lingerie and typical women’s stripper attire as they danced in front of children and grabbed their hands, walking them down the center of the bar to a sign that read “It’s not going to lick itself.” Once the children were directly in front of the sign, they were directed to stand, dance, or walk around. Misster played host to the first hypersexual “all-ages” drag show in Texas, which they advertised with the slogan “Drag Your Kids to Pride.” However, they are not unopposed.Įarly in June, Dallas gay bar Mr. Now, disturbing and increasingly vulgar drag shows are popping up throughout the state. Misster bar in Dallas jump-started a slew of similar shows. While “all-ages” drag events have been held in the past, they weren’t a consistent issue until the June drag show at the Mr. I absolutely don’t look under 21 though, so maybe there were security people at some of these places and they just didn’t stop me, lol. This year, “all-ages” or “kid-friendly” drag shows exploded in Texas. Thursday nights on the upper west side there’s usually a really fun competition/pageant at the west side lounge, and I don’t usually see someone checking ids at the door there. Dromedary, Macri Park & the Rosemont in Brooklyn are a lot of fun and don’t always seem to have someone stationed at the door. I feel like places I’ve gone in Brooklyn are less likely to have a door person than some of the main bars in Manhattan- I go to hardware, pieces, boxers, & the ritz a lot, and every time I go they have someone checking id. Oh and if you’ll be here any day from March 5-7, there’s the Nubia show with Peppermint, Bob, Shea, The Vixen, Monique, and Bebe! You might want to double check and make sure it’s all ages, but it’s a ticketed event.ĭo you know where you’ll be staying? It might also be worth wandering the immediate area and seeing if you can get in anywhere- not everywhere cards all the time, so you could get lucky. I know there are more, but I’m forgetting them right now. Toro Loco usually has one, La Pulperia, Black Barn. Yeah the Laurie Beechman is really fun, and I also think most drag brunches are all ages? The queens at the Voss events brunch are amazing & the show is more of a full production than some of the others (and they sometimes have RPDR guests), but there are a ton of other fun brunches in the city too.
